Retired GMC Coach Bert Williams to be honored by Georgia Sports Hall of Fame
Macon, GA –
The GA Sports Hall of Fame will be awarding the JB Hawkins award to retired Georgia Military College Athletic Director and Football Coach Bert Williams this Saturday 5/22 at their annual induction banquet.
The J.B. Hawkins Humanitarian award is presented annually to a Georgian who has distinguished himself through significant and meaningful contributions to youth sports in the state of Georgia, much in the way legendary basketball Coach J.B. Hawkins did during his long and inspiring career.
U. S. Senator Sam Nunn stated that "Coach Hawkins not only distinguished himself as one of Georgia's winningest basketball coaches with over one thousand victories, he set an excellent moral example for thousands of young people. Coach Hawkins is a credit to his profession. From the U.S. Army, to the basketball arena, to his church, to his leadership in the Crawford County community, Coach Hawkins set an outstanding example."
Founded in 1956, the GSHF is one of the oldest state halls of fame in the United States and has continually inducted impressive individuals who have excelled in the field of sport for 65 consecutive years. The GSHF would not exist without the contribution of humanitarians in our local and state sports community.
