DOUGLAS, Ga. – South Georgia State women's soccer went into the post season as the number one seed and hosted ABAC in their GCAA semifinal game last Wednesday. It did not take long for the Hawks to take control, scoring the first of five first half goals just eight minutes into the contest.
The Hawks continued the scoring with three second half goals on to an 8-0 victory and a spot in the GCAA championship. GCAA MVP Makayla Robinson tallied three goals, while Cassidy Harrell added two goals. The Hawks dominated from beginning to end outshooting the Fillies 25-3.
Saturday's GCAA Championship match had second seed Georgia Military traveling to Douglas Saturday afternoon in hopes of knocking off the Hawks. The game started with the Hawks applying pressure and keeping play in GMC's half of the field.
Beatriz Cairos gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 10-minute mark.
In what would probably be an emotional back breaker for the Bulldogs, GCAA MVP Makayla Robinson gave the Hawks a lead 2-0 with a goal with just one minute before halftime and Robinson sealed the victory with another goal with 11 minutes left in the contest increasing the lead to 3-0. The Hawks outshot the Bulldogs 8-1 in each half.
With the victory, the Hawks clinched their 2nd consecutive GCAA championship.
GMC's season concludes at 8-7.
South Georgia State (11-2) will travel to Region 7 champion Motlow State (12-2-1) for the NJCAA Southeast District Championship Friday November 4th at 7 p.m. EDT.
