Barnesville, GA - The Gordon State Highlanders extended their lead in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association soccer standings by defeating the Georgia Military Bulldogs 2-1. The first half was a scoreless affair as neither team was able to find an opportunity to score.
Alex Chapman opened the scoring for the Highlanders with her 5th goal of the season in the 67th minute. Gordon State extended their lead late in the contest as sophomore Kayleigh McQueen's goal in the 87th minute. That goal ended up being the game winner. Freshman Gaby Arellano was credited with an assist on the play. In the final minute of the match GMC scored a goal leading to the final score of 2-1.
With the win the Highlanders are now 7-1-1 overall with a conference best 5-0-1 in region 17. Gordon State travels this coming Saturday, Sept. 28 to Douglas, GA to take on the Hawks of South Georgia State at 5:00 PM. The last time out against South Georgia State, the Highlanders jumped out to a three goal lead but had to hold on for a 3-2 win.
