CUTHBERT, Ga. -- The Lady Fighting Tigers coughed up the lead in the top of the 7th inning in game two, falling behind 9-7, before staging a fierce comeback, highlighted by Cheyenne Tillman's 2-RBI walk off single to knock off Wallace State-Dothan 10-9 at the Hord Athletic Complex on Tuesday night. Charlie Smith tossed a 4-hit shutout, striking out 4, as the Tigers cruised to a 6-0 win in game one.
Angela Heimback and Taylor Sheffield were the offensive stars in game one, with Sheffield going 3 for 4, with a pair of doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2-RBI, while Heimbeck went 3 for 3, belting a 2-run homer, and driving in 3 runs on the game. Katelynn Simpson and Smith both had a pair of hits, and Charlie Smith ran her record to 5-4 on the season.
Game two saw the Tigers jump ahead 7-3 through 5 innings, before the Lady Governors rallied for 4 runs, including a 3-run homer by Angela Carr to put the visitors up 9-7, entering the bottom of the 9th inning. Shaeline Browne led off the 7th with a pinch hit single, and was pinch ran for by Kenley Kennedy. Charlie Smith then drew a walk, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch, before Kennedy scored on another wild pitch, drawing the Tigers to within 9-8. Kaitlyn Smith and then Sheffield both drew walks to load the bases, before Tillman laced a single down the third base line, driving in the tying and winning runs.
Heimback blasted 2 solo home runs, Kierra West and Sheffield both went 2 for 3 with an RBI, Kaitlyn Smith went 1 for 3 with a 2-RBI single, and Simpson went 2 for 4 with an RBI as the Tigers pounded out 12 hits in game two. Charlie Smith (6-4) picked up the win in relief.
The Lady Tigers travel to LaGrange, Ga. on Saturday to take on the LaGrange College JV in a doubleheader, before returning to Hord to open GCAA play against East Georgia State College next Tuesday.
