South Georgia State sweeps 1st Cross Country titles; Dukes and Smith win individuals events
MACON - South Georgia State College swept its 1st Region 17 Cross Country Championships at the Georgia Children's Home in Macon, Saturday as the Hawks Nathan Dukes won the men's 8,000-meter run. Dukes finished the 8K (5 miles) in 27:42.28.
In the women's race, Shambria Smith of Central Georgia Technical College won the women's 5K (3.1 miles) in 23:53:11.
The fortune of the Lady Hawks from South Georgia State to take the title was in fact the misfortune of the Lady Titans. With Smith finishing first, the Lady Titans however were unable to place as a team as their 5th and 6th runners were unable to attend due to family emergencies. Oxford College ran a great race with 4 runners finishing in the top 10 but were unable to score as they were participating as a club team.
