CGTC Men finish big at Titan Invitational
Macon- In Central Georgia Technical College’s first home cross country meet, several members of the men’s team earned big wins for the Titans. Freshman Eddie Stafford earned first place with a time of 27:49.18, while Sophomore Danny Shaw took home third place with a time of 28:21.79. Both runners ran personal bests in the weekend’s event. Chris Arredondo also earned points for the Titans with his ninth place finish.
“I came in the race knowing that this was the right time and venue to push for the PR, and with my coach and teammates pushing me past my normal limits in practice, I knew I had it in me” said Stafford. “It was a gutsy race pushing the pace from start to finish, but the confidence was there. I believe there is still a lot of room to grow."
“I want to thank Coach and my co-runner Eddie for pushing me in practice and meets. Because of this I was able to break 29 minutes,” said Shaw. “Until this year I never broke 29 minutes, and to PR in the 28’s; I’m so happy. I just want to continue to improve.”
Coach Antonio Harris was pleased with the meet stating that “hosting our first Invitational was a huge success and we received nothing but praise from the attending schools.”
With such success in the past weekend’s event, Coach Harris is looking forward to competing in the post season.
“Going into the conference championships we have a lot of momentum. I think we have some of the top runners in the conference. If we keep working hard and running like I know we can run, we will be very competitive,” said Harris.
The Titans wrap up the regular cross country season Saturday, October 11 at the University of West Georgia Wolves Invitational in Carrollton.
