Cavaliers sweep Skiles Invitational
Sept. 29, 2012 (DAWSON) – Darton State College swept its 2012 Skiles Farm Invitational race, Saturday, in Dawson.
The Cavaliers had a near-perfect 17 total points over South Georgia College's 43 in a dual meet for the collegiate men's 8K.
The Lady Cavs scored 29 points to beat Georgia Southwestern State University (2nd, 52 points), Chipola Community College (3rd, 88 points), and South Georgia College (4th, 90 points) in the women's 5K race.
Darton's Cody Mallchok again led the Cavs, covering the dusty, hilly course in 27:52. Darton freshman Jared Richmond has been closing the gap on Mallchok since August, and finished 2nd overall Saturday, running 28:14. Sophomores Hank Campbell and Nick Mascardo finished 3rd and 4th overall, and freshman Ean Crawford finished 7th to sum up the Cavs' score.
Freshmen Elena Oslund and Alexis Skiles again led the Lady Cavs. Oslund's 21:29 was strong enough to finish 3rd overall, while Skiles was a second behind her to finish 4th with 21:30.
Sophomores Jeronda Stringfield and Hayden Clapper finished 7th and 8th, finishing in 21:43 and 21:59, respectively. Freshman Jaichelle Thomas ran 22:30 to finish 10th.
Georgia Southwestern's Jessi Young ran 20:41 to win individual honors in the 5K. Chipola's Natalya Miller finished 2nd overall with 20:45.
Darton leads the GCAA and it looks like a fourth consecutive conference sweep lies ahead in late October. Currently the women's program is ranked No. 18 in the NJCAA. The men are ranked No. 19.
