Darton Men's Soccer gives back to local High School

LEESBURG -  Darton State College head men’s soccer coach Bart Sasnett led a preseason soccer clinic at Lee County High School and raised several hundred dollars for the Trojans.

Lee County soccer coach Kevin Pych called it “amazing” as Sasnett led the Trojans through a pair of technical sessions Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons to help the program raise funds to purchase some training equipment.

“Coach Bart and Darton College donated all money from his technical soccer clinic to our booster club yesterday,” Pych said. “It was over $600.”

Sasnett’s clinic also got a muddy group of 40 teenage boys fired up about the 2014 soccer season. The Trojans have been limited to only conditioning and, per state high school athletics rule, could not work with their head coach in technical training as of yet. So getting to work with a well-known college coach topped with an opportunity to finally kick a ball at practice was a win-win for Lee County.

“Yeah I enjoyed it,” said Lee County junior Logan Galvin. “We focused on using available space on the field to our advantage, Tuesday, and I got a lot out of (Coach Sasnett’s) session. The mindset that we carried into the following scrimmage, emphasizing tactical awareness, helped a lot.”

It was an opportunity to support the local soccer community in efforts of increasing player development, according to Sasnett, who has helped local schools with player evaluations and camps for a long time.

“I’m open to helping any of the area high schools,” Sasnett said. “They just need to send me an email and I’ll help them any way I can.”
