No. 1 Darton unblemished record remains intact
No. 1 Darton shuts out Thomas Reserve, now 9-0
Sept. 26, 2012 (ALBANY) – Darton State College shutout Thomas University Reserve, 6-0, in a non-conference match today at home.
Jowayne Laidley’s breakaway goal only two minutes into the game set the stage for a devastating first half that ended with Darton leading, 5-0.
Alejandro Garcia and Jorge Chirinos also scored a goal apiece for the Cavaliers, and gave two and three assists, respectively. But an aggressive Andrew Palumbo again lead the Cavaliers’ scoring. The sophomore forward from Ft. Myers, Fla., netted three goals to earn a hat trick.
“Palumbo – when he scores goals, it’s like they come in spurts,” Darton head soccer coach Bart Sasnett said.
Darton had 15 shots on goal. Thomas had six, with only one of them challenging Darton ‘keeper Carlos Catano during the first half.
“We had a lot of kids play (in the second half) who haven’t gotten to play yet, so it was a good day,” Sasnett said. “They worked their tails off. They were adamant about not giving up a goal.”
The win improves No. 1 ranked Darton to 9-0. They face Jefferson College at the Georgia Perimeter College campus in Dunwoody, Saturday.
