Georgia Military wins DIII National Golf Championship
Chautauqua, NY. --- Georgia Military College won the NJCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championship on Friday afternoon at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY.
The victory marks the second time in school-history that the Bulldogs have finished atop the overall team standings with the last coming in 2004. GMC's four day total of 1215 (+63) beat second place Columbus State CC by 24 strokes. Minnesota St CTC finished a distant third 36 strokes back.
Georgia Military powered its way to victory from the start by taking the day one lead by 13 strokes with Ashton Denton's 72 and Floris Veth's 73. The Bulldogs kept that double digit lead going into the final round and doubled that margin with another 13 stoke increase on the final day shooting a 299 team best round of the tournament .
GMC's Floris Veth finished second individually shooting even par 288 (73,73,72,70) while Ashton Denton finished fourth individually at 6 over 294 (72,74,79, 69). Each player garnered First Team All-American honors based on their outstanding four day totals.
