Kim garners All Tournament selection; Cavs finish second
ALBANY – Tae Kim shot 3-under today to secure a spot on the All-Tournament Team as hosts Darton State finished second overall at the District IV Preview at Stonebridge Golf Club in Albany.
Kim shot 75 and 70 in his first two rounds, Monday, before shooting 69 today to finish tied for fifth with 213 total strokes.
He and teammate Madison Turner, who also shot a 69 in the final round, led Darton’s team effort today. The Cavaliers and tournament champion Eastern Florida State both shot a 289 today, but EFS was so far ahead after the first two rounds that there was not much of a chance that the Cavs could catch them.
Eastern Florida State, after leading the first two rounds by 16 strokes, finished the tournament 18-under. Their fifth man, Drew Cooke finished 5-under shooting 78, a record-tying 63, and 70 over his three rounds to become the tournament medalist.
“Well he tied the course record for amateurs,” said Darton interim head golf coach Dale Dover. “But we just didn’t play our par fives. The par fives killed us yesterday.”
The Cavaliers finished with 862 total strokes. Turner shot 75, 75 and 69 to tie for 7th, Jake O’Brian shot 72, 70 and 75 to tie for 11th, Rafael Miranda shot a 75, 70 and 76 to tie for 17th, and Taylor Martin shot 73, 73 and 76 to tie for 21st.
Wallace State, although they outplayed Darton and Eastern Florida today with a low round of 286, finished 3rd at 3-over.
