Cavaliers continue GCAA golf dominance; win 13th title
FT. GAINES - The Darton Cavaliers won their 13th consecutive GCAA/Region 17 Championship tournament, Saturday, at Meadow Links Golf Course in Ft. Gaines.
Darton shot 297, 294 to total 591 strokes and 15-over par. ABAC finished second at (598) 22-over, Andrew third at (601) 25-over and Georgia Military fourth at (659).
The third round of the tournament, scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled due to heavy rains.
Andrew College's Andreas Tancred won low medalist, shooting a 69 Friday and a 76 on Saturday to finish with a two day total of 145. Darton's Taehyung Kim (73,73) came in second one stroke behind at 146. ABAC's Chris Rogers (71,77) and Lee Wright (73,75) tied for third at 148 while Darton's Jake O'Bryan (78,71) and Madison Turner (74,75) finished tied for fifth at 149.
Darton and ABAC both trailed Andrew College by a stroke at the close of the first round. However, Darton's second-round score of 295 was six strokes better than ABAC, and 11strokes better than Andrew's 305.
Darton will host the District IV Championship at Stonebridge in Albany beginning April 15.
