Cartersville, Ga – Georgia Highlands College Chargers claimed the GCAA baseball title Thursday afternoon on their home field knocking off #2 seed Gordon State 10-3. The victory gave the Chargers their second GCAA/Region 17 Championship out of the past three years.
The Chargers secured the title going straight through the winner's bracket, winning three straight games to claim their third overall championship. In the championship game, GHC trailed Gordon State 3-1 in the fourth inning when the Chargers unleashed an offensive juggernaut hitting four home runs and scoring nine runs over the final five innings.
Chandler Anderson (9-0) scattered six hits, giving up just three runs while pitching nine complete innings for the win.
GHC had 4 players with HRs on the day. Luke Orfi, Will Cawthon, Ryan Martin, and Grayson Godbee all delivered homers. Orfi had three RBI's while Godbee and Ali Banks each contributed two RBIs apiece.
The win advances the Chargers to the NJCAA Div. I Baseball - Appalachian District Championship, where they will face the Region 7 Champion (TN) in a best 2 out of 3 series in Tennessee. with a single game played each day beginning Tuesday, May 14th. The winner of the Appalachian District receives a berth in the NJCAA College World Series in Grand Junction, CO, where ten of the best juco baseball teams in the nation, will battle to be crowned National Champion.
