Emerson, Ga -- Andrew College came into this year's tournament as the 6th seed but that did not stop the Fighting Tigers from capturing their second title in the past three years Thursday night at the Lake Point baseball complex.
Andrew had worked their way through the winners' bracket and had to win only one game on the final day of the tournament. ABAC jumped out early scoring 10 runs in the opening two innings and never looked back, getting a run ruled 14-4 win in 7 innings in the championship game. The Stallions looked as if the were going win the "IF" game with a 5-0 lead through 5 innings. That is when the Tigers returned to favor from game one by scoring 5 runs in the sixth inning and 6 runs in the 7th inning and knocking off #2 seed Abraham Baldwin 11-6 and taking the GCAA Championship.
The win advances the Tigers to the NJCAA Div. I Baseball Appalachian District Championship, where they will face the #19 ranked Chattanooga State College (TN) in a best 2 out of 3 series in Cuthbert at the Hord Complex, with a single game played each day at 1:00 pm, beginning Tuesday, May 16. The winner of the Appalachian District receives a berth in the NJCAA College World Series in Grand Junction, CO, where ten of the best juco baseball teams in the nation, will battle to be crowned National Champion.
