Lady Eagles take third straight national tennis title
Peachtree, GA—Oxford Emory claimed the NJCAA DIII Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday to become just the second team to capture three consecutive titles. Oxford Emory joins Rowan-Gloucester (NJ), who finished second in 2017, to win three championships.
The Lady Eagles tallied a tournament-best 37 team points to win the title. The total points are the most for the Eagles in its three-year run. Rowan-Gloucester from totaled 20.5 points to finish second, followed by Camden County (NJ) who recorded 20 points. Oxford ran away from every other team during day two and three earning 17 points after holding a half point lead at the end of day one.
Sophomore Caroline Kawula took home No. 1 singles for Oxford Emory after capturing No. 2 singles in 2016. One year removed from the No. 3 singles title, Mary Kathryn Healy claimed No. 2 singles at the 2017 championship.
Oxford Emory captured all six singles flights for the second consecutive year. The Eagles also won all three doubles flights for the third-straight year as Kawula and Healy teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-2.
This is the fourth DIII title for the Eagles, tied with Mercer County (NJ) for most all-time. The team standings and final scores are listed below.
