ABAC Soccer cages Bulldogs on the road
Milledgeville- Overcoming a sluggish start after a three hour road trip the Fillies continued their winning ways handing the home team a 5-0 defeat. On the road the ladies took two out of three games on the road, dropping their only game to Darton State. In their third and final road contest, ABAC used four different strikers to secure their sixth regular season win, eighth overall.
In the opening possession, ABAC took control of the ball in which both teams went back and forth to start the game. The Lady Bulldogs did take the first shot at the goal but came up with nothing just a few minutes later.
Katie Barton and Myesha Robinson played the ball into visitor territory at the seventh minute mark, which led to a few corner kicks, but still nothing.
It was again a great defensive effort by Barton that continued to try to send the ball up the field along with Katy Hunt and Lisa Macedo. Lexi Lloyd took a shot at the goal for ABAC and was just wide.
Momentum seemed to start to build as the half progressed, but the Fillies just wasn't attacking the ball early.
Blakeley Bergeron, Lauren Lee, and Hunt all took shots at the goal in the first half.
With less than five minutes to play in the half, ABAC took quick possession after a GMC throw-in which found Robinson and Bergeron on the move. Robinson put a nice touch on the ball over to Bergeron but too much juice on the attempt which sailed over the goal.
Neither team could find any openings in the first half, as ABAC took a few more shots at the goal under three minutes but were at a standstill at intermission 0-0.
Just about three minutes into the second half, Bergeron had some nice opportunities and finally capitalized on a solid pass from Starr Robertson. Bergeron had taken the first shot of the half for the Fillies and her sixth goal on the season put ABAC with a 1-0 advantage.
A good defensive stand by Ashley Hammonds, Cassidy Ingram, Katie Barton, and Taylor Sorrows in the goal gave possession back to the visitors.
ABAC held possession on their end of the field as again something was brewing. Robinson and Bergeron worked the ball down the field as the Fillies Offense struck again. Bergeron finished off the goal from Robinson off a deflection. Fillies now lead by two goals at the 54th minute mark.
Robinson and Bergeron were on the move again, along with Lloyd as the footwork by the three led to a corner kick.
After the corner, Lloyd made the most of her three shots taken at the goal, and the third time was the charm to score the third goal of the game for the Fillies. It was her first collegiate goal and Macedo was there for the assist.
Hunt was the next player to take some shots at the goals.
Breanna Gomez the fourth goal of the afternoon, with Robinson on the assist to put the score at 4-0.
GMC had very few opportunities as ABAC took 16 shots in the second half and made the most of their openings.
Late in the game with 12 minutes left in the game, Macedo was set to take the corner kick for the Fillies. Macedo fired the ball off the half circle with a host of Fillies and Bulldogs at the goal. Fillies players that surround the goal as the shot was taken were Bergeron, Lee, Hunt, and Carly Altman. Hunt was the one to get air on the kick and the fifth and final goal went past the goalie off the header.
Wins keep rolling in for the Fillies team as they now sit in the second spot in the standings with a 5-1 conference record.
As for the Fillies players amongst other conference teams, Bergeron is tied for second in goals scored with seven, two behind Darton's Kincheloe with nine. She is also third in points scored with 19.
