Andrew College's Alyssa Curtis commits to
the University of South Florida
Cuthbert, Ga. – Andrew College's Alyssa Curtis has verbally committed to NCAA Div. I's University of South Florida, which is located in Tampa. Curtis, who went to high school in Palatka, Fla., was a second-team All-Region performer for head Coach Cory Harbinson's Andrew College Lady Tigers.
The University of South Florida is the fourth-largest public university in the state of Florida, with an enrollment of just over 47,00 students. The Bulls are a member of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), which formed in 1979. The AAC grew into prominence when the Big East collapsed due to a number of defections by several members in 2013. The conference added teams from the old Big East, Conference USA and Atlantic 10, and will be a part of the "Group of Five" conferences for the football playoffs.
Head Coach Denise Schilte-Brown has spent eight years at USF, compiling a 61-49-25 record. She has made four championship finals, including this year, where the team fell to the University of Connecticut on penalty kicks (3-2) after a scoreless regulation and overtime. The Bulls dropped their first-round NCAA match to Illinois State 3-2.
Curtis had a stellar season in goal this year. In posting an 8-7-2 record, with 4 shutouts, she recorded 149 saves, good for 7th in the NJCAA.
Possessing great height and superb athleticism, Curtis was actively pursued by several four-year institutions, including Delta State University (Miss.), Eckerd College (Fla.), Jacksonville University, University of North Alabama, University of North Florida and University of Tampa.
