Carr wrestles undefeated at Newberry Duals
December 2, 2014
Newberry, S.C. - Darton State College sophomore Bryce Carr beat two All Americans and was a perfect 4-0 in his matches Saturday at the Newberry College Duals in Newberry, S.C.
Carr beat Coker's Derrick Booth by major decision, Belmont Abbey's Patrick Argast by a technical fall, Newberry's Lukas Gilmore by decision, and Anderson's Trevontay Rhodes by a fall.
"He's hard nosed and he just gets after it for seven minutes," Darton State College head wrestling coach James Hicks said of Carr. "He doesn't take breaks in his matches and that breaks most of his opponents. He also does a good job of implementing the techniques we work on in practice into his matches."
Carr, a Dublin native, is now 19-1 and ranked 7th nationally.
Darton was unable to take any team victories Saturday, although three out of five duals came down to the last match. "We just weren't able to pull it off," Hicks said.
However the Cavaliers traveled to Newberry to face some tough competition from 4-year programs as they inch closer to nationals.
"We go there for that tough competition," Hicks said. "And we always get better from it. It's a great preparation for the national duals competition in January."
