Frey secures 200th win with the Lady Jets
South Georgia Technical College head women's basketball coach James Frey achieved a coaching milestone recently defeating Georgia Highland 87-65 in Americus, GA. for his 200th career win. Frey has won 203 games in remarkably short period of time, just starting his eighth year as head coach of the Lady Jets all while averaging an impressive 28 wins a season.
Asking him what came to mind when reaching the 200 win mark, Frey said, "I'm just excited that I've been able to be the head coach here in Americus for the past seven years. I count it an honor to show up to work every day with the tremendous support we have from Dr. Watford our President, Ms. Martha Arrington and our booster club and all of our faculty and staff.
Winning a lot of games to me is about players. Without really good players I haven't had the success I've had at South Georgia Tech. I think back to all my former players and they are a special group. Coach Gerald Cox, my mentor for over twenty years at the College of Coastal Georgia taught me everything I know about the game and how to coach it. He taught me how to treat people in this business and to respect the game he loves. My longtime assistant Kezia Conyers, now a head coach, worked tirelessly to help me build this program for six of those previous seven years.
Last but obviously not least my family who have sacrificed the most while I chased my dream of being a collegiate head coach are all what come to my mind when I think about accomplishments like winning 200 games. I'm humbled."
The Jets Booster Club presented Coach James Frey with an autographed ball to commemorate his 200th win as Lady Jets Head Coach. The ball was presented by Booster Club President Martha J. Arrington and SGTC President Dr. John Watford.
The Lady Jets are currently 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference will return to action tomorrow December 4th, traveling to conference opponent Albany Tech.
