SGTC Lady Jets drop GHC Lady Chargers in Conference Contest 87-65
The Lady Jets played host to the Lady Chargers of Georgia Highlands tonight in Americus. The Jets have won the GCAA Region 17 title 5 of the last 7 years and once again look to be the team to beat again this year.
The Chargers started off the game by quickly building a 5-point lead in the first two minutes of the game. It was a lead that they would not hold the lead for long. Following a time-out, SGTC was able to regroup and go on a run to finish the 1st quarter with a 20-13 lead over the Chargers. The Jets maintained that lead going into halftime leading 37-28.
Starting the 3rd period, the Chargers hit a three-pointer and a lay-up to start the half and cut the lead to 4 early but that was a close as the Chargers would get. The Lady Jets went on a 29-10 run to build a 66-43 lead that would essentially seal the game. SGTC would go on and build a 31 point lead midway through the 4th period. The Chargers hit a few late baskets to cut that lead down but they never really threatened the Lady Jets and the Chargers fell 65-87.
SGTC's Anna McKendree had a game high 22 points and Shamari Tyson added 15. Jahnaria Brown and Alexandria Shishkina scored 17 and 16 points respectively for the Chargers.
The Jets will travel to Southern Crescent Technical College next Monday and the Chargers travel to Lawson State CC Saturday.
