Lady Jets win GCAA and District Championship; focus turns to NJCAA National Tournament
For the third time in the past four years, the South Georgia Technical College women's basketball team is going to the NJCAA national championship tournament.
The Lady Jets had to win only one game in the GCAA tournament with an opening round bye and then a semifinal win over East Georgia State. That game turned out to be the game advancing them to district match up with Spartanburg Methodist due to the unfortunate fact that Central Georgia Tech's ejections in their semi final victory against Georgia Highlands left the Titans with not enough players to start the championship game, giving the Lady Jets a title by forfeit.
Next step for the Lady Jets was familiar territory as they battled again for the NCAA District J Championship, this time traveling to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Lady Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College. The Lady Jets jumped out early and never looked back as the Lady Pioneers were no contest for the Jets winning 69 - 42. Alyssa Nieves and Esther Adenike provide the one two punch in leading the Lady Jets. Nieves led all scorers with 18 points while Adenike had a double double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Next stop for the Lady Jets (25-19) is Lubbock, TX, for the NJCAA national tournament March 19-24.
