Lady Chargers gallop to take the GCAA title
The Lady Chargers (24-9) had a mission going into the season , to get better each and every game and tonight was the results they were looking for with the Lady Chargers bringing the NJCAA Region 17 Championship back to the Corral by defeating the tournament host Lady Jets of South Georgia Technical College 65-63. GHC got off to another fast start like they have for all three conference playoff games going up 9-3 . The Lady Jets of South Georgia Tech fought back to take their first lead 14-11 at the 4:15 mark of the first period.
The game was a battle of runs South Georgia Tech's came back after being down as many as 11 points. The Lady Jets Angela Tompkins was the key to their comeback scoring 27 points. The game had 13 lead changes in the contest.
The game came down to the final 1:00 minute of the game with GHC leading by 5 points and the Lady Jets hit a running floater in the lane and was fouled, they made the foul shot to cut lead to 2 points. GHC in bounded the ball and took it the length of the floor but the shot fell short with the Lady Jets getting the rebound. With 14.4 seconds on the clock the Lady Jets shot fell short and GHC got the rebound and ran the clock out to secure GHC's first NJCAA D1 Region 17 Women's Championship.

" We overcame De'Ashia Jones who got in early foul trouble, and their best player Tompkins having a great night, but we found a way to fight through it." "I can't say enough about our ladies, especially our sophomores.", said Lady Charger head coach Brandan Harrell.
The Lady Chargers were led by Kayla Carter 19 points, and 6 rebounds, De'Ashia Jones had 10 points and 5 rebounds in limited playing time due to foul trouble. China Underside provided a big spark off the bench scoring 8 points.
The Lady Charger will travel to Spartenburg Methodist College to the NJCAA District J National Tournament Play in game. Date and time TBA.
