Lady Chargers take down #19 nationally ranked South Georgia Tech
The Georgia Highlands College Lady Chargers clawed their way back from a 10 point deficit to start the game to take down the #19 NJCAA ranked Lady Jets of South Georgia Tech 69-59.
GHC cut the lead to 4 at the 9:00 min. mark of the 2nd half. Lady Charger sophomore Auriana Broughton hit a three to tie the game at 24 with 1:16 left in the first half. GHC took its first lead of the night on a steal and lay-up by Auriana Broughton to take a 26-24 lead.
The Lady Chargers held led throughout the second half going up by as many as 12 points late in the second half. GHC had 4 players in double digits. Lady Charger and West Georgia commit Kayla Carter led the way for the Lady Chargers with 23 points, with a stellar 12/12 at the free throw line. Auriana Broughton and Taylor Farley had 12 points each, and De'Ashia Jones had 10 .
"We had tremendous effort overall , what really stuck out tonight was the energy Taylor Farley provided off the bench, she picked us up when we needed it. Kayla Carter was fantastic going 12/12 at the line, " said Lady Charger Head Coach Brandan Harrell.
The Lady Chargers go to 16-9 on the season and 9-2 in GCAA Conference play. GHC returns to action at home onWednesday Feb. 3rd taking on Albany Tech. Tip off 5:30pm.
