WEST GEORIGA TECH WOMEN IMPROVE TO 5-3 AFTER 67-58 WIN AT BRENAU UNIVERSITY J.V.
GAINESVILLE, Georgia -- The West Georgia Tech Golden Knights women’s basketball team picked up a 67-58 road win over the Brenau University junior varsity squad Monday evening in Gainesville.
West Georgia Tech, winners of five of its last six games, improves to 5-3 on the year.
Sydnee Clark picked up her second double-double of the season with a 23 point, 10 rebound effort. Clark was 9 of 12 from the free throw line.
Jacky Jones scored eight points while dominating the glass with 17 rebounds, a team high. She also had four steals and one block on the night. Brianna Cousin had four points and nine rebounds, two games after grabbing 20 rebounds against Chattahoochee Valley, which set a school record.
West Georgia Tech got off to a fast start, leading 20-11 after the first quarter. Brenau answered with an 18-12 run in the second quarter to close to within three at the half, 32-29.
West Georgia Tech played its best basketball in the third quarter, as the Golden Knights stretched the lead from three points to a 54-35 advantage. WGTC held off a late Brenau rally to finish off the nine-point victory, at 67-58.
The Golden Knights dominated the glass, pulling down 24 offensive rebounds.
“We won the game tonight on the inside,” West Georgia Tech head coach Kenny Edwards said. “Give credit to Brenau, they hit some big shots and went on some runs that caused us some problems. We have to learn how to play for four quarters. We played great basketball coming out after halftime and gave ourselves a big cushion but I would like to see us play that way the entire game. Our sophomores stepped up tonight and helped lead us to another big victory.”
The Golden Knights will take some time off to enjoy the holiday break before returning to action on December 5, at home against the Faulkner University junior varsity team. Tip-time is at 2 p.m., in Carrollton.
