In their sixth trip to the women’s basketball national tournament in Kansas, the Georgia Perimeter College Jaguars won a first-round game for the first time as they defeated Jefferson College 57-50 Wednesday afternoon.
After a sloppy start, the Jaguars (23-9) overcame a 28-23 halftime deficit with a 13-2 run early in the second period that swelled into a 13-point lead that Jefferson couldn’t overcome.
GPC advances to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA tournament at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kan., playing Pensacola State College Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT. Pensacola (27-4) also won their first-round game Wednesday with a 72-60 victory over Monroe Community College.

Four Jaguars scored in double figures against Jefferson, with sophomore center Brittany Logan dumping in 14 points. Kamiya Burwell contributed 13, Deanna Downer 11 and Fanny Cavallo 10.
