Darton wins GCAA Swimming and Diving Championship
ALBANY, GA –
The Darton State College Cavaliers and Lady Cavaliers won the 2013 NJCAA Region 17 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, Thursday, at the Cavalier Natatorium in Albany.
Both the Darton’s men’s and women’s program won all but one of every event in the meet., which consisted of Darton and South Georgia College only.
The Lady Cavaliers outscored South Georgia, 218-133. It seems like it wouldn’t have been a true swim meet if Darton sophomore Anna Macht didn’t set a school record, which she did, in the 200-yard backstroke. She beat her former record with a 2:07.22.
The Darton men won 220-141. Despite a tough week of training leading into the meet, several of the Cavaliers, such as JD Rousseau, set personal or season best times at the competition. Rousseau swam the 1650-yard freestyle event 17:19.75 to win first place.
South Georgia does not have a diving program, so Darton’s divers performed unchallenged Thursday. They used the meet as a tune up for the NJCAA Championship, which takes place in about three weeks.
As a whole, Darton outscored South Georgia 438 to 274.
