Lady Bulldogs win GCAA championship with victory over South Georgia State
LOCUST GROVE, GA. ---For the first time in the school history, the Georgia Military College softball team is going to the NJCAA national championship tournament.
The second-seeded Bulldogs swept through the Region 17 double-elimination tournament with three victories and punctuated their dominance with an 8-3 victory over top-seeded South Georgia State College Sunday at Strong Rock Christian Academy in Locust Grove.
Next stop for the Bulldogs (35-22) is St. George, Utah, for the NJCAA national tournament May 18-21.
Madason Messer pitched her third victory of the tournament and the Bulldogs belted two home runs today to win the championship.
GMC exploded for four runs in the top of the first inning—featuring a 2-run single by Jordan Crews and a Jade Moncrief two run homer.
Crews lofted a run scoring double followed by a two out single by Kirsten Albright that scored two more runs increasing the Bulldog lead to 7-0 in the third inning.
South Georgia State (32-9) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-3.
Albright increased the lead for the Bulldogs to 8-3 with a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning and that would remain the score giving the Bulldogs the championship hardware.
