ABAC Fillies and students help'STRIKE OUT CANCER' at softball doubleheader
Students from the Wellness and Human Experience class along with the Fillies softball team at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College held a "Strike Out Cancer" event on March 22 at Fillies Field when ABAC played Thomas University J.V.
From 3-5:30 p.m., spectators at the games purchased balloons for $1 and attached the name of a loved one who has been affected by cancer to the balloon. A Memory Wall and a Fight Wall for attendees to sign during the games was a huge success, along with a special Art Wall displaying the Strike Out Cancer logo were all displayed on the back of the third base dugout.
In a brief ceremony between games of the twin-bill, former Coach Donna Campbell and ABAC Head Coach Jennifer Martinez addressed all those present on how cancer has affected their friends and families. Their words were followed by a release of the balloons while singer/songwriter Whitney Layne's song "God Will Have To Wait" was playing. "It was a beautiful moment with Whitney's song being played and the release of the balloons was a very touching moment for all." added Coach Campbell.
Members of the Wellness and Human Experience class served free hot dogs and drinks during the event. The event raised over $330.00 for the ABAC Relay for Life Team.
