GMC Softball Sweeps Doubleheader from Piedmont JV
DEMOREST, Ga. – The Georgia Military College women's softball team rallied for an 8-5 victory in Game 1 and then used that momentum to complete a doubleheader sweep of the Piedmont College junior varsity with a 13-3 win in five innings in Game 2 Friday at Walker Softball Field.
GMC improved to 3-6 overall and will travel to Darton State College for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
In the opener, GMC trailed 5-1 heading to the top of the seventh inning and then struck for seven runs to take an 8-5 lead.
Claire Crawford (Macon, Ga.) scored on an error to make it 5-2 and then Taylor Little (Cochran, Ga.) doubled to left field to score Sara Alderman (Oxford, Ga.) and Heather Tyler (Monticello, Ga.) to pull GMC to within a run at 5-4.
Kirsten Albright (Lizella, Ga.) followed with a run-scoring single to plate Little and tie the game at 5-5.
GMC (2-6) took the lead for good at 6-5 when Albright scored on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Kenney (McDonough, Ga.).
Then it was Brittany Rosenberry's (Woodstock, Ga.) two-run double that scored Morgan Edwards (Locust Grove, Ga.) and Kenney to make it 8-5.
Crawford went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Caitlin Collins (Macon, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored as 10 different Lady Bulldogs collected hits in the 13-hit attack.
Six different players also had RBIs in the game.
Rosenberry (2-2) picked up the win for GMC by going the distance and allowing five runs – three earned – on four hits while striking out three and walking two.
In Game 2, GMC scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to the 10-run triumph.
Little went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Kaitlyn Moore (Flovilla, Ga.) was 2-for-3 and a walk.
GMC pounded out 12 hits with nine different Lady Bulldogs getting hits.
Peaches Barr (Jenkinsburg, Ga.) and Kacy Swart (Covington, Ga.) each had two RBIs as six Lady Bulldogs drove in runs.
Moore (1-3) picked up the win in the circle by going 4 2/3 innings while allowing two runs – none earned – on two hits and striking out four and walking one.
Albright came on to get the final out of the game.
