Lady Cavaliers spend semester visiting local elementary school

LEESBURG – After two months of weekly appearances, Darton State College softball will make its last fall visit to Kinchafoonee Primary School on Wednesday afternoon.
Since early September, the Lady Cavaliers have traveled to Leesburg every Wednesday to spend time with kindergarten through 2nd-grade students.
Darton head softball coach Amber Miles, who took over the Lady Cavalier program late this summer, wasted no time in getting her student-athletes into the community.
"It's important to give back to the community, and it's important for the community to see us off of the field too," Miles said.
She added that the KPS students "look up" to Darton State College student-athletes.
"Whether we're playing at recess or reading with them, there is an excitement centered around spending time with our players," she said.
Darton softball has been involved with KPS since 2013. Miles said that while the weekly visits are focused upon positively influencing KPS students, Darton student-athletes benefit from the experiences as well.
"When I look at them they have smiles on their faces that are just as big as the smiles on the kids they're interacting with," she said.
