Lady Chargers Announce First Softball Signing Class
Georgia Highlands College has announced the completion of its inaugural softball signing class. Twenty-one Lady Chargers will suit up for the school’s debut campaign in the spring of 2014, according to Melissa Wood, head coach.
"The inaugural GHC softball recruits represent some of the
best talent in Northwest Georgia and beyond.” she said.
“We have 21 great players who will create the tradition of
Charger Softball."
The class includes athletes from Virginia and 14 counties in Georgia. They include:
- Shannon Albright, Hanover High School, Mechanicsville, Virginia
- Lindsey Miles and Morgan McKinney from Jefferson High School, Jefferson
- Karlie Jarrett and Sierra Cagle from Chattooga High School, Summerville
- Allison Story from Cass High School and Emily Willingham from Excel Christian Academy, Cartersville
- Jessie Ricks and Liz Prance from Sequoyah High School in Canton
- Jazmin Hawkins from powerhouse Buford High School, Buford
- Jessica Dunn and Taylor Alton from Forsythe Central High School in Cumming
- Amber Seeba from Union County High School in Young Harris
- Kristen Mullis from White County High School in Cleveland
- Hillary Rowell from Brunswick High School in Brunswick
- Kayleigh Medlin from Bremen High School, Bremen

There are also two current GHC students who made the team:
- Brandi Hughes, a nursing student, formerly played softball at Rockmart High School
- Lindsay Roach was a standout at Woodland High School in Cartersville
Lady Chargers coach Wood has had experience building a team from scratch. She helped Berry College build its first softball program in 2009. In its second year, Berry’s team had its first winning season. She’s hoping to create the same magic at GHC.
