Gordon celebration of military comes with a twist
The Gordon State College softball team celebrated the military Wednesday in a doubleheader with a twist – a glittery, shiny, really sweet twist.
The opening pitch was thrown by Pfc. Blake Sorrows, the boyfriend of middle infielder Emily Brown. Sorrows recently returned from a nine month deployment in Afghanistan and said he was moved the team was honoring him along with others who are serving in the military.
something in a bright red gift bag. He then knelt down, pulled out another softball
with a ring taped to it and "Marry Me Please" written across the leather. Brown
quickly said yes and a giant team hug ensued. Even the Georgia Perimeter team
got in on the action and took a picture with the newly engaged couple.
The double header – which had been rained out, moved and threatened by rain
yet again Wednesday – ended in a split with the Lady Highlanders taking the first
game 7 - 5 but losing the second game 12 - 1.
