Lady Bobcats continue upward swing
The East Georgia State College softball team is off to a
great start in the conference, going 5-1 in their first six games
and are 20-7 overall this season, showing that the program is
continuing the growth that it showed last year with good veteran
leadership and great pitching.
All six conference games have been on the road, with the Lady
Bobcats sweeping ABAC, splitting a series with Aiken Tech, and then
sweeping Georgia Military College earlier this week.
Sutton Appling is leading the team with a .405 average,
having also hit two homers with 16 RBI, and 14 runs. Brinsley
Screws follows her with a .312 average, four homers, 20 RBI, and 21
runs scored.
Laura Cardell leads the team with five homers while hitting
.300 with 12 RBI and 21 runs scored. Nikki Sims is hitting .265
with two homers, 15 RBI, and 13 runs.
Brittany Middleton is having one incredible sophomore season,
posting an ERA of 1.38 with a 7-3 record over 76 innings pitched,
striking out 51 batters, walking 18, and only allowing 15 runs on
64 hits. Mallory Riner has posted a 3.25 ERA with a 5-2 record over
56 innings, striking out 58, walking 13, and allowing 26 earned
runs over 58 hits.
The Lady Bobcats are currently third in the conference and
are among the favorites to win the title, with the way the team is
pitching, if the bats can keep up they will easily make the
conference tournament and have a chance to make a run.
