Darton Sweeps No. 3 Wallace State; win 4 of 5 games in FL
Marianna, Fla.,
The Lady Cavaliers won four of five games against some of the NJCAA’s best softball programs in a weekend tournament hosted by Chipola College in Marianna, Fla.
Darton took two victories from No. 3 ranked Wallace State CC Hanceville, Saturday and Sunday. Darton freshman Savannah Carlisle allowed three hits in seven innings, Saturday, to get a 1-0 win over Wallace. Kelsey Ogletree’s home run gave Darton the upper hand.
The Lady Cavaliers beat them again Sunday, 3-2. Jenny Willis pitched 3 strikeouts in 6 innings to get the win. Carlisle got the save. A two-run double by Kelsey Swinson in the third inning would be the game winner for the Lady Cavs.
“We played well, but we still have a lot of work to do,” Darton head softball coach David Dews said. “All of those teams were really good. It was a very positive experience for us to go down there and play with them.”
Darton shutout Mississippi State Gulf Coast 6-0 and Snead State 4-0. The only loss came to Northwest Florida State by means of a 2-0 shutout in game two, Saturday.
