Cavaliers run to win at Point University Invitational
WEST POINT - The Cavaliers beat seven university programs to win the Point University Invitational in West Point, Friday.
Darton packed up and finished 3, 4, 7, 10 and 11 to score a low 35 points to win. Morehouse College finished second with 51 points, and Clark Atlanta University took third with 105 points. Morehouse's Dahir Mohamed finished first in 26:36 to claim individual honors.
"We wanted to beat Morehouse, and I knew we'd have to run them man for man," Darton head cross country coach Bruce Skiles said. "It wasn't a fast course so we weren't running for times. We were racing to place well individually."
Darton was able to dominate by putting four Cavaliers among the top ten finishers. Freshman Austin Stewart led the team, finishing 3rd overall and running the 8K in 27:22. Victor Chicas was eight seconds behind him and finished 4th, followed by David Thornton (7th, 28:00), Jose Bautista (10th, 28:24) and Richey Jordan (11th, 28:42).
The Cavaliers will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., Saturday, for a final race before hosting the Region 17 Championships at Darton on Oct. 26
