MGSC Knights tennis programs pick up wins
In the return of tennis to Middle Georgia State College, the men’s and women’s teams both picked up wins in a conference match with Emory College at Oxford on Friday. The match marks the first time the institution has had a tennis team since the early 2000s.
The men opened the season with a 9-0 win to taking all six singles and three doubles matches (scores are below). The team entered the season ranked # 20 in the NJCAA and Shem Alexis enters ranked as the #26 male in the nation while he and Camden Jones are ranked as the 22nd doubles team in the nation. Alexis took his first singles match 6-4, 6-3 while he and Jones won their match 8-6 at the first doubles spot.
The women came out with the win 6-3 taking four singles and two doubles matches (scores are below). The women start the season ranked 24 in the nation and were facing # 25 Oxford College of Emory University. Shelby Ashley and Tricia Wharton were ranked # 39 for the start of the season and took their match 8-6 in the first doubles spot.
The Knights men and women will both play their next matches on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 PM in Brunswick, GA against the College of Coastal Georgia.
