Darton to host swimming and diving invitational
ALBANY – Darton State College will host the 2014 DSC Invitational swimming and diving meet on Friday and Saturday in the Darton Physical Education/Athletics natatorium.
The meet opens at 5 p.m., Friday, and admission is free. It should run until 7 p.m., and resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
South Georgia State, Lagrange and Birmingham Southern are expected to compete with the Cavaliers.
In the men's events, all eyes will be on freshman David Diaz, who currently holds the NJCAA's fastest 200M breaststroke (2:08.22), and 2nd fastest 100M breaststroke (57.7).
"He's eager to get the fastest time in both events," Darton head swimming coach Major Robinson said. "He could get a top 30 time in the country for all divisions of college athletics."
Ashley Delgado is expected to lead Darton in the women's competitions. The sophomore won a number of events two weeks ago at South Georgia, and specializes in the 200 free.
Darton State College Diving, which produced the 2013-2014 NJCAA David Rolands Male Athlete Of The Year, Crawford Berry, steps onto the boards between swimming sessions, Saturday, in what will be its first competition of the 2014-2015 season.
"I'm excited to see our divers get out there Saturday, and see what they've got," Robinson said.
