Darton completes GCAA soccer sweep; men take GCAA title

Sat Game 1:
Andrew and Georgia Military faced off to see who would move on to face Darton State in the GCAA men's soccer final. GMC cashed in first scoring two goals with Damieon Thomas and Marcos Tadeo giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 halftime lead. Andrew cut the lead in half 15 minutes in the second period on a goal by Zach O'Shea. However just 1:20 seconds later Panayoti Gotsis pushed that lead back to 3-1 with a goal. Demario Wilson made things exciting with just 2:46 seconds remaining to cut the lead at 3-2. There just proved to be not enough time left as GMC advanced to the championship game winning by the same 3-2 margin.
Sunday Championship Game:
GMC and Darton battled in the GCAA championship game with the winner hosting next Saturday's Southeast District and that winner advancing to the NJCAA championship tournament in Arizona. Nearing completion of the first half Matheus Ayrolla scored with 1:06 left to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 halftime lead. GMC tied things up 1-1 with 24 minutes left on a goal by Aaron Ayala. Darton recaptured the lead 2-1 on another goal by Ayrolla with 18 minutes left in the contest. And with 8:21 left GCAA Co Player of the Year Darwin Espinal provided the insurance goal and winning margin 3-1 to advance the Cavaliers and host this Saturday's 2PM district game against Louisburg College.
