Darton captures GCAA Golf Championship
MOULTRIE — The Darton State College men's golf team captured the GCAA Championship Tuesday at Sunset Country Club. The victory marks the 15th consecutive title for the Cavaliers and their last as they will be merging with Albany State next year.
The Cavaliers won the 54-hole multi divisional tournament by 12 strokes(897) over ABAC. ABAC carried a three day total of 911.Georgia Northwestern finished third two strokes back at 911. Andrew completed the tournament with a 940 total.
As low medalist, Cavalier Finlay Mason won the individual championship finishing with a final round 71 on Tuesday. Mason finished the two-day tournament with a 212, four strokes under par. He led the all-tournament team along with teammate Josh Robertson, who shot a 74 in the final round and finished at 226, fourth-best in the tournament.
Along with Mason and Josh Robertson of Darton, Ty Gore and Jeb Stewart of ABAC, Chase Cole of Georgia Northwestern and Markus Svahn of Andrew were also named to the GCAA All Region team as the top five finalists.
Darton State advances to the NJCAA District IV tournament on April 25 at Terry Pines Country Club in Cullman, Ala. where they will compete against teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The top five teams will make the field for the national tournament that begins May 17 in Melbourne, Fla.
