Cavaliers win DSC Invitational at Stonebridge
ALBANY – Darton State College won their own 2014 DSC Invitational at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club, today.
After finishing in the lead Monday at 4-under par, Darton finished with an even 288 today to win the tournament by 12 strokes.
“Right now, the hard work is paying off,” said Darton State College head golf coach Gary Hilton.
The Cavaliers gave a dominant performance throughout the tournament and finished all three rounds with the tournament-low round.
“We went wire to wire,” Hilton said. “All in all it’s been a great week for us.”
Seth Sanders led the Cavaliers, shooting 69 and 70 in Monday’s rounds and finishing today’s 18 in 69 strokes. Sanders, a sophomore from Macon, finished at 8-under par and in second place.
Hunter Tidwell, a freshman from Alcoa, Tenn., finished 4th after shooting 75, 68 and 71 to finish 2-under par. Conner Watt finished 1-over after shooting 73, 70 and 74. Tyler Shamblin shot 73, 74 and 77 to finish 8-over par.
It was the second straight tournament victory for Darton, and Hilton said the Cavaliers are just beginning to tap into their potential.
“We’re playing off of athletic ability right now,” he said. “We haven’t reached our peak potential at all. But with each win, they are starting to believe in each other more and more.”
Darton will play its last fall tournament at the Central Alabama Community College Fall Invitational on Nov. 10, at Willow Pointe in Alexander City, Ala.
“We’ve got to keep building momentum,” Hilton said. “The fall is all a preparation for the spring season.”
