Gaffney reaches coaching milestone with 500 victory
Coach Phil Gaffney began his head coaching career in 1993 at Columbia Green CC in Hudson, NY where he won 90 games. In 1998 Phil became the head coach at Mohawk Valley CC in Utica, NY where he had 161 wins to only 53 losses. In 2005 Phil became the head coach at Guilford Tech CC in Greensboro, NC winning 102 games and only 51 losses.
In 2012 Phil became the head coach and athletic director at Georgia Highlands College. Through Coach Gaffney's hard work and dedication the Charger Athletic program has flourished and had remarkable success both on the court and in the classroom. In the short span of 7 seven years Coach Gaffney has led his Charger teams to 4 regular season GCAA titles, 3 NJCAA Region XVII Championships, 3 NJCAA National Tournament appearances reaching the NJCAA Final Four in 2015 and 2016, and the Sweet Sixteen in 2017. Coach Gaffney's Chargers had a 56 game winning streak, longest of any college team in Georgia history regardless of level.
In his time at GHC his record is 161 / 70. In the last 5 years his record is a remarkable 132-24. On January 16th on the road at Albany Tech Coach Gaffney earned his 500th win with a 97-91 victory. Congratulations to Coach Gaffney on reaching this milestone!
