Titans take final second conference win
Macon – The Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) men's basketball team (9-2) defeated the South Georgia Technical College Jets, 60-57, on Tuesday night at Titans Arena. The victory marks the first conference win for the Titans this season.
Riding a six-game winning streak, the Titans opened the game long range shots from sophomores Andrei St. Vistal and Jahir Cabeza. The Titans had a balanced offensive showing, with 14 players scoring in the game. The Titans shot 42 percent (22-52) from the field and scored 20 points off turnovers committed by the Jets.
In command for the majority of the game, with their largest lead of 48-34, the Titans struggled defensively in the second half allowing the Jets to gain an offensive edge. The Jets rallied behind Torico Simmons (18 points) to cut the Titans' lead to 57-55 within the last minute of play. Simmons scored at the 30 second mark to tie the game.
With a tied score and seconds remaining in the game, the Titans would not be outdone on their home court. Battling an expiring game clock, and with only three seconds on the shot clock, sophomore Sheldon Williams scored the game-winning three-point basket to give the Titans a 60-57 edge over the Jets.
Williams led all Titans scorers with 16 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal, shooting 50 percent from long range (4-of-8). Freshman Darryl Tucker, Jr. added 11 points, six rebounds, 1 blocked shot, and three steals, while sophomore Mike Harden had 5 points and 8 assists.
The Titans are back on the court Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m., traveling to Barnesville to face Gordon State College.
