WALESKA, Georgia -- West Georgia Tech men’s basketball picked up its third win of the season, 96-56 over Reinhardt University’s junior varsity team Monday night in Waleska, Ga.
The Golden Knights improved to 3-6 on the year with the victory.
WGTC point guard Dominique Lindsey led the Golden Knights in scoring with 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field. Lindsey was perfect from the free throw line, going 4 for 4. Lindsey dished out a game-high eight assists and pulled down six rebounds.
Elisha Johnson, a 6-7 freshman from Douglas County High School, had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Johnson made 6 of 11 shots from the field and had a season-high seven blocks for the Golden Knights.
West Georgia Tech’s Adrian Tolbert (Newnan/Northgate H.S.), continues to dominate the inside. Tolbert, another 6-7 freshman, tied a career-high with 15 rebounds to go along with nine points. He has recorded at least ten rebounds in eight of WGTC’s nine games this season and leads the conference in that category, with 11.4 rebounds per game. He also had three blocks on the night.
“Our big guys in the middle controlled the game tonight,” West Georgia Tech head coach Niki Okolovitch said. “We really needed to come out and play with effort and work on our execution and I think we took a step in that direction. We have to continue to get better on offense and make smarter decisions when we have the basketball for us to be the type of team that I believe we can be at the end of the season.”
The Golden Knights dominated from start to finish, racing out to a 47-22 lead at halftime.
West Georgia Tech had 21 offensive rebounds and 13 blocked shots. The Golden Knights dished out 27 assists versus just twelve turnovers and had 17 steals.
West Georgia Tech made 37 of 83 shots from the field (44.6 percent), 4 of 17 from three-point range (23.5 percent) and 17 of 32 from the free throw line (53.1 percent).
WGTC will play the middle game of this current three-game road swing next Monday against the Truett-McConnell College junior varsity team. Game time is 7 p.m. in Cleveland, Ga.
