Freeman Named CGTC Student-Athlete of the Year
Macon- Central Georgia Technical College sophomore guard Lawrance Freeman received the CGTC IMPACT Award and was named the Student-Athlete of the Year on April 7 at the annual athletics banquet.
Given to the top athlete at the completion of the athletic year, the IMPACT Award recognizes the student-athlete who best exemplifies integrity, maturity, personality, academics, community, and tenacity. To be selected for the award, the student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and show excellence in the classroom, community, and in athletic competition.
"We want the award winner to exhibit the qualities that we hope to see in all CGTC student-athletes", said Rorie Bradley, CGTC Director of Athletics. "Lawrance has been an ambassador for our athletics program in the community, and has always shown class and sportsmanship when competing on the court."
During the 2014-2015 season, Freeman was named a Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA) First Team All-State recipient. Freeman was also named to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) All-Region Second Team, and was a two-time Division I Player of the Week. For the season, Freeman averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists, and shot 42.3% from the field.
"Lawrance is the type of kid that every coach wants in their program. His work ethic is unmatched and he has a relentless will to be successful," said men's head basketball coach, Reco Dawson. Freeman, who has a 3.1 GPA, is on pace to graduate this summer with a degree in marketing management.
