Georgia Northwestern wins fourth straight
After starting the season with an 0-4 record, the Georgia Northwestern Bobcats have clawed their way back to the .500 mark.
Win number four in a row came Tuesday at the Rossville Athletic Center as the Bobcats battled back from a 39-36 halftime deficit to beat the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College, 72-69.
In a game featuring multiple ties and lead changes, GGC took its biggest lead – six points – with eight minutes remaining, but Georgia Northwestern’s press would lead to some key steals as the Bobcats rallied for a 60-59 lead with 6:30 left.
The Grizzlies would answer to take a two-point lead, 68-66, with two minutes to play, but Georgia Northwestern would connect on four huge free throws down the stretch – two each by Cameron Sherlin and Dustin Stanley – to seal the win and preserve the winning streak.
Devin Watkins had the hot hand for the Bobcats with 17 points, while Sherlin continued his torrid pace with 16 points. Veshawn Bell added 16 points and four steals, while Stanley battled inside for 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. Tyler Shropshire finished with nine points and four steals.
Georgia Northwestern (4-4) will look to climb over .500 on Friday when they host Welch College at 7 p.m. at the R.A.C. The Lady Bobcats will begin the doubleheader with a 5:30 game against Truett-McConnell.
Friday will also be Toy Drive Night. Spectators will get free admission to the games by bringing in one unwrapped new toy.
