Oxford Emory defeats WGTC on last second layup

OXFORD COLLEGE DEFEATS WEST GEORGIA TECH ON LAYUP IN THE FINAL SECONDS
CARROLLTON, Georgia – Oxford College scored the game’s final seven points including a fast-break layup with 1.8 left on the clock to stun West Georgia Tech 70-68 in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon in Carrollton.
WGTC led 68-61 with 4:15 left in the game but saw
that lead evaporate quickly.
Oxford College had the ball after a timeout with 14 seconds left and set up a play to potentially win the game. WGTC stole the ball but couldn’t control it, and Oxford ended up with the ball and had an opening to the basket with less than five seconds left.
They took advantage of the opportunity and made the
layup.
WGTC had a final shot at the buzzer – but Devante Orebeau’s attempt from half-court hit the back of he rim.
With the win Oxford improves to 18-9, 4-1. The loss drops West
Georgia Tech to 10-13 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The
two teams will meet again on February 14 to close out the
regular season schedule.
