SGTC Jets’ Jacob Obande signs with Valdosta State

South Georgia Technical College Jets’ Jacob Obande signed a
letter of intent to play basketball with the NCAA Division II
Valdosta State University Blazers for the 2013 – 2014 season,
announced SGTC Athletic Director and Jets head basketball Coach
Steven Wright.
Obande, a 6’ 3” guard from Marietta, Georgia, played
his freshman season with the South Georgia Technical College Jets.
He played in all 32 of the Jets games as a freshman and started 11
games playing an average of over 21 minutes per game.
He averaged 9.4 points per game for the Jets and shot 44.4% from
the field and 75.3% from the foul line. He also shot over 34% from
the three-point line. He accounted for an average of 3.2 rebounds
per game and 1.2 assists.
“We are excited for Jacob to be able to move to the next
level on the court and academically,” said South Georgia
Technical College Athletic Director and Jets head basketball Coach
Steven Wright. “We will miss him but realize that this is a
great opportunity for him. I believe that he will be an asset to
the Blazer basketball program and to the university as a
student.”
The Jets finished the season with a 22 – 10 overall record
and finished in the final four of the National Collegiate Athletic
Association Region 17 tournament. They were 11 – 9 in the
Georgia College Athletic Association and averaged 79 points per
game.
The Valdosta State University Blazers were 19 – 10 overall
and 9 – 8 in the conference. They were 13 – 3 at home.
The Blazers average 78.4 points per game and gave up an average of
72.6. Mike Heifer is the head coach of the Blazers and Nick Gast is
the Associate Head Coach.
