Dawson Named New Basketball Coach at CGTC

Central Georgia Technical College has officially named Reco Dawson – the former Georgia Southwestern State University and South Georgia Technical College assistant coach – as their next men's basketball coach.  He takes over the program effective May 16.

Dawson's  most recent coaching experience was with GA Southwestern State University , where he helped guide the varsity boys' basketball team to a 32 – 23 record and a NCAA II  regional tournament appearance.  "Coach Dawson brings not only great coaching experience, but a passion for the game to help build our basketball program," said Rorie Bradley, CGTC Athletic Director.    Bradley points out Dawson's roots and his relationship with the region's high school basketball coaches and programs as major factors in his selection.  "We are excited that Reco has accepted this position. "He has the background and ability to be a tremendous asset to the college in this new capacity. We had a great pool of candidates, and we're very fortunate to be welcoming Coach Dawson to our athletic program," said Bradley.

Dawson has a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in Recreation from Georgia Southwestern State University. He also has a Master of Business Administration from GSW.

Prior to his time at Georgia Southwestern, Dawson served as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at South GA Technical College. He also worked as a graduate assistant there and provided academic assistance to student athletes. Other work experience includes: World Marketing Services and the Americus-Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department.

Dawson's office is located in the Wellness Center in the B Building (Lower Level) on the Central GA Technical College campus.  "I'm ready to start preparations for the upcoming season."  Dawson also said he is excited about working with many of the area high schools as he begins his recruiting efforts.  "With almost a decade of coaching in Middle and South Georgia I have a great relationship with many of the region's high school basketball coaches, and will be able to recruit with some success in this area."
