West Ga Tech Wins Inaugural DIII Championship
Sunday Championship Game: West Georgia Tech opened the game scoring nine of the first eleven points and survived several surges by Oxford College of Emory University to win the inaugural DIII men's basketball championship 66-52. The Golden Knights received some balanced scoring with three starters in double figures, Demontray McCormick 16pts and 9 rebounds, Blair Austin 15 pts and Demano McMath 12 pts. Oxford was led by Stephen Simmons 16 pts while Kevin Tolbert contributed 10pts. West Georgia Tech advances to the District 7 tournament to be held at Rockingham Community College March 9-10
Saturday Day 2 Game 1: For the first half it appeared that the Bobcats of Georgia Northwestern Tech might be the "cinderella" team of the tournament battling West Georgia Tech . But as the second half progressed the Bobcats just couldn't keep pace with the Golden Knights, falling 91-64.
Game2: The second semifinal game started in much the same way as the first game of the day. Oxford College of Emory and Middle Ga Tech battled back and forth and with both teams going to the locker room at half-time tied 32-32. In the second half Oxford went on several runs eventually opening up a 10 point lead and winning the contest by a score of 79-54.
Friday Day 1: The lone quarterfinal game between Southern Crescent Tech and Georgia Northwestern Tech proved to be an exciting game going back and forth with multiple lead changes. In the end, The Bobcats from Rome held on for a 58 - 57 win and thereby advancing to Saturday's first semifinal game.
