WGTC names Welborn Head Baseball Coach
West Georgia Technical College has named Beau Welborn as the head coach of the Golden Knights baseball team, removing him from interim status.
Welborn took on an interim role this spring when former coach Todd Pratt left WGTC in January to pursue a major league coaching opportunity.
"I'm excited for Beau and what he brings to the program," said Athletic Director Todd Davis. "I know that as a former player at WGTC, he will take pride in developing a competitive program with quality student-athletes both on and off the field of play."
Welborn is a product of Lassiter High School in Marietta, where he played shortstop and helped them to the 2010 Georgia 5A State Runner-Up title. He began his collegiate career at the University of West Georgia but completed his second season at West Georgia Technical College under Todd Pratt.
"It's an honor to come back where I played," Welborn said. "I enjoyed my time at WGTC and I'm looking forward to building upon the foundation Coach Pratt established in the previous years."
Welborn received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Georgia and finished his playing career in the PECOS Independent Professional Baseball League in Kansas. In 2016, the Garden City Wind won the Northern Division Championship and Welborn represented the team as the starting third basemen in the annual All-Star game.
